LESS IS MORE + PURCHASE POWER = PEOPLE POWER!

We live in the best time in history, yet satisfaction is declining. The author's own journey - born 1957, Barrister, serial entrepreneur, now philanthropist - has convinced him that life improves when we embrace less.

He shares his successes and failures so others can find solutions.

In a world where more government, more technology and more consumption is viewed as the way to go, ask:

How is that working out for you?

Over consuption has left the planet toxic and depleted, more government means 50% of your income goes on taxes fees and fines, creating financial insecurity. Technology is now a tyrant not a tool and it controls us. The end result is less happiness, more illness (e.g., COVID) and less optimism.

Solution: Together United + Purchase Power = People Power

Unaccountable Authority

Unaccountable Authority

Unaccountable Authority

Authority without scrutiny—especially government—is the core problem. Taxes, fees and fines now claim roughly half the average household income; one earner effectively funds state inefficiency and its hunger for control. Division and algorithmic manipulation keep us fearful and compliant; but united, we can fight back.

TAKE BACK CONTROL

Corporations must relearn that “the customer is always right”. Government must understand that public office is public service, not self-service.

Purchasing power: our primary solution

Every pound spent is a vote. Conscious consumption restores democratic influence, strengthens finances, improves health and curbs the reach of unaccountable corporations and governments.

Created to assist, it now rules. Social media trades in illusion, addiction and data-harvesting for profit and state surveillance. Digital restraint will restore autonomy and peace.

EXERCISE YOUR POWER, MAKE A DIFFERENCE, TAKE BACK CONTROL

What do we mean by purchase power?

A dollar has more influence than a vote

Purchasing power turns every transaction into a vote. When thousands act together, revenue and reputation - the lifeblood of firms and officials - shift immediately. Authority becomes negotiable.

Understanding that Less is More, coming together and united as a group, is critical to this.

How does "Less is More" apply?

Less is More is Empowers

To genuinely exert purchase power and restrain the influence of government and corporations, individuals must adopt a "Less is More" mindset. This means making deliberate choices about consumption, understanding that reducing what people buy isn't a sacrifice but a net positive. It benefits mental health, improves financial stability, lessens environmental impact, and offers more personal freedom.

What are we up against?

Corporations

For corporations, you can use selective buying, organised boycotts, “buycotts”, mass cancellation of subscriptions, coordinated switching of  suppliers that reward ethical rivals, old fashioned petitions, and viral reporting that identifies anti-customer techniques, can make a difference.

Profit changes what companies care about faster than new laws do - especially when corporations fund and shape lawmaking.

Government

Traditional approaches still have their place. From petitions, to constituency letters, crowd-funded judicial reviews, strategic voting blocs, careful management of tax affairs to squeeze government cash flow, along with other methods, tell politicians that their actions have a public price.

People must visibly but peacefully withdraw consent for government to use their money and their power to act against their interests. Politicians need reminding they work for the people.

What does this mean in practice? A crucial element in this dynamic is the quarterly VAT (Value Added Tax) collected by governments. Because this tax is paid regularly, often every three months, a collective reduction in purchases will quickly translate into a noticeable drop in government revenue. Simply put, when we buy less, governments feel the financial impact swiftly.

A range of existing organisations are already doing this work, but they require greater coordination, buy-in and coherence - we are stripping back getting to the core questions of power and authority.

United Together

We The People

Digital platforms multiply reach: one post galvanises thousands, impact-tracking dashboards prove progress, and pooled micro-donations finance better alternative practices.

Acting as a coordinated crowd, we align behind a shared thesis, support one another, and organise efforts in real time. Network effects amplify every contribution, collective intelligence refines strategy, and mutual accountability sustains momentum.

We do not have to wait years for the ballot box; we can act daily.

THE PROBLEM IS UNACCOUNTABLE AUTHORITY

THE SOLUTION IS PURCHASE POWER = PEOPLE POWER

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.
